Stendra Vs. Cialis

For most men, erectile dysfunction is perhaps the most misunderstood, stigmatized and feared physiological condition. Men with sexual difficulties report being bothered by the inability to get an erection or to maintain it long enough to perform intercourse.

One of the most common prescription ED medicines is Eli Lilly’s Cialis. Its popularity is largely due to its 36-hour effectiveness. It is because of this lengthy period of effectiveness that Cialis is known as the ‘Weekend Pill’ and advertised as such. Cialis works similar to Viagra or Levitra. Cialis helps men to maintain spontaneity of sexual intercourse because of its lengthy period of effectiveness.

Over almost 2 decades men have bought millions and millions of tablets to treat their erectile dysfunction. Cialis, Levitra and Viagra have been prescribed to men world wide.

In April 2012, the FDA approved a new drug from Vivus called Avanafil and branded as Stendra. It is the first erectile dysfunction treatment to be announced in the last decade. The monopoly of the big 3 may be broken by Stendra.

What makes Stendra Different.

If you were wondering what makes Stendra different from the other three drugs available, the answer is simple –  fast action!  Studies show Avanafil is the fastest of the four  erectile dysfunction drugs.

Stendra  acts faster than its 3 competitors.  Viagra works in 30 minutes to an hour, Stendra will work in just about 15 minutes and Cialis can take hours.

Chemically Stendra works by effecting  phosphodiesterase type 5  (PDE5) inhibitors as do the major 3 drugs.

Cialis claim that  it offeres on demand performance since it works for 36 hours a strong selling point of Stendra.  But Cialis has a much long wait time to take effect even thought once taken it offers on demand performance.  But Stendra is found to have similar or less side effects when compared to the Cialis and the others.

Doctors may find Stendra a useful new option for men who do not respond to Cialis, Viagra and Levitra.  Although similar, Stendra works in a slightly different way from the current 3 on the market.

An additional benefit of Cialis is that physicians and psychiatrists  prescribe Cialis to depressed individuals who seek erectile dysfunction treatments. The theory behind this preference is that Cialis stays in the body for a longer time, allowing men to experience erections on demand for almost 36 hours, leading to improved confidence and lowered depression. Viagra or Levitra which stay in the body for a shorter time do not help depressed men to remain sexually confident for longer periods of time.

It is too early to assume that Stendra will somehow affect  Cialis manufacturer’s stock by acting as a competitor. Cialis has the lengthy effectiveness advantage that even Viagra and Levitra do not possess. Cialis will continue to be popular among men who do not like to plan sexual intercourse and prefer being ready always.  Physicians, psychiatrists and urologists will continue to prescribe Cialis to men with erectile dysfunction and the sales will remain pretty much the same. If Viagra and Levitra could not affect Cialis’ sales, Stendra certainly will not be able to do much.  Cialis has been around since 2003, and has millions of satisfied users, and the doctors know it for a fact.

Erectile Dysfunction is more than just a medical issue such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, neurological conditions, hormonal imbalance or side effects of drugs. Psychological conditions such as anxiety and mood spectrum disorders also play a part.

Viagra is marketed by Pfizer, Eli Lilly’s markets Cialis and GlaxoSmithKline with  Bayer’s markets Levitra. Apricus Biosciences has announced Vitaros, a topical cream that is applied on the penis to initiate an erection based on  alprostadil, a drug currently used in intracavernosal injection. This drug may be useful to those who do not tolerate oral medications.
